Learning Group for Non-Chinese Speaking Children

Our non-Chinese speaking group – teachers and students

As over half of the student population in our school is non-Chinese speaking, we understand the difficulties and challenges faced by our students in learning Chinese, and have been worked hard towards the integration of our non-Chinese speaking students into the school environment. For instance, our school joined the training programme, "Growth2: Effective Learning and Teaching of Chinese and Smooth Transition for Multicultural Students", organized by the Centre for Advancement of Chinese Language Education and Research at the University of Hong Kong.

In addition, our school also organizes the non-Chinese speaking groups at each class level, to follow up on the learning progress of our non-Chinese speaking students. Teachers in these groups use different strategies to teach them Chinese, through games, nursery rhymes, dramas, picture books, etc. The classes (about 25 minutes each) are held twice a week. We hope it will improve their Chinese skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing; and help them integrate into the greater Chinese-speaking community.
